Oh, wow! I cannot believe it! I'm rather into computers and I would think I would have heard about this at school! My computer has been doing this too and I even missed a night exam because of it! Thankfully, my instructor let me make it up the next day. I'll have to show her this article about this. Here I thought I had someone trying to play tricks on me or some non-malicious virus.

Ever since Daylight Savings time began this last Sunday, our server time clock has been going nuts. After midnight, it resets to an hour earlier, we switch it to the right time, it resets again, back and forth refusing to obey.

I've been wondering if my servers are going nuts or if it's just me.

Well, after the 4th day in a row resetting the clock, I finally decided to search the web and find out if anyone else is having problems...

Okay, so those of you who likely watch the news or read it or something probably have heard what's going on, but it's news to me. I rarely watch the news.

So what did I find out?

Congress moved daylight saving's times up 3 weeks earlier and forgot to tell our computers!

Here is the article I found that has finally given me the "whesh! I'm not crazy... (maybe).." feeling.

Daylight Savings: Y2K All Over Again?

The article includes...

"Congress quietly passed a measure to begin daylight-saving time three weeks early this year. If the sun stays up later, went the logic, U.S. energy consumption would go down.

The problem is that while they told us all of the switch, they didn't tell our computers or our cell phones — or any of the zillion other digital clock-driven devices that have come into our lives since Congress last messed with the calendar in 1986."

It also says...

"Computers: If you have a new one, running, say, Windows Vista, Windows XP Service Pack 2, or Apple's OS X, you'll likely be fine. Newer machines either know that daylight-saving time has moved up, or software patches were sent out online.

If you have an older operating system, though, you'll have to change the computer's clock on your own, and you may have to un-change it when it thinks the clock is supposed to spring forward on April 1. No big deal, but there are tens of millions of older machines out there."

The problem we had was the nice little checkbox on the clock on the servers that says "automatically adjust clock for daylight savings changes." So we would adjust the clock, and then at midnight it would readjust itself, and proceed to do so again and again each time we adjusted it for the next hour or more. Don't know for certain.

But I unchecked the box, and reset it and am hoping I can go to bed without worrying about it any longer.
